About Gruene
Pronounced “green” like the color, Gruene is located along the Guadalupe River within the city limits of New Braunfels. Gruene was established in 1872 by German settlers and was a bustling farming community during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Unfortunately a boll weevil epidemic in the 1920s and the devastating effects of The Great Depression left Gruene essentially a ghost town during the 1950s.
"Gently Resisting Change Since 1872"
Restoration of Gruene began in the 1970s and many of its buildings were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Today Gruene, Texas has a thriving community and popular tourist destination. Many original structures from the late 1800s still stand and are in use today.
